Motorcycle Tours of Scotland, Europe and Morocco

My passion has always been motorbikes and at aged 16 my life changed for the better.  Completing my CBT and owning my first bike, an AR50 was the greatest thing in the world.   Since then I have gone from a CB500, a VTR Firestorm, Bandit 1200 and a ZX-6R and have loved them all.

My first tour of Scotland was in 1996, a week of pure pleasure for a 19 year old, riding through Glen Coe and across to Skye blew me away. So much so that I kept coming back, until in 2001 my partner and I relocated and settled in our new home in Skye on the Western Isles.

In 2006 my good lady Hannah passed her bike test and we hit the Continent together. 3500 miles through the Alps and over the Pyrenees made us realise we could do this for longer.  Much longer.

And so in 2007 my good lady and I decided to give ourselves a real challenge and take our biking passion further afield.  We left the security of our jobs and our home, and said farewell to our friends and our families and instead embarked on a years travelling.  For me it meant swapping my well worn Bank Managers suit for my bike gear.  Our challenge was to travel to as many countries in Europe as possible.

Starting our wild adventure from our home in the wanders of the Western Isles of Skye, we rode to the most Northerly tip of Europe, passing through the Arctic Circle and riding alongside the reindeer to Nordkapp in Norway.  Heading to Eastern paths through wilderness and rough terrain to the exuberance of St. Petersburg in Russia; to the Saharan Sands in South Morocco, covering all four points of the Compass, and all that lay in between.  And all navigated the old-fashioned way, using just one trusted Map of Europe!

We covered some 26,000 miles over 6 months, visiting 33 European Countries and crossing 41 borders along the way, travelling on our everyday road bikes -a Bandit 1200 and an SV650

Having fallen for the magic of Morocco, we decided to explore this magnificent country further and spent our remaining 6 months touring and living in real Morocco on the south coastal town of Sidi Ifni.  This gave us fantastic routes all over Morocco, as well as gaining a true understanding about the society and country we had adopted.

This amazing lifetime experience led to the creation of Wilderness Motorcycle Tours, which gives you the opportunity to taste some of what we have discovered, as well as the excitement of a grand bike tour without all the organising headaches. Over the coming seasons we will be offering different tours designed to give you the best Europe and Morocco has to offer a biker on tour.  We have shown you don’t need a big expensive bike to tour on (although I bet it doesn’t hurt….) – you can travel on any bike you like. We aim to give you the bike travelling experience whilst also recognising this is your holiday so while we do cover some big mileage we also throw in the odd rest day in areas of interest too. For areas such as Scotland we offer some different daily routes also to ensure you have the holiday you want riding the roads and seeing the things you want to along the way.

Since 1996 I have some 55,000 miles of European riding under my belt, and I want to give you the opportunity to let me show you some more!
