| Isle of Skye | Cal' Mac Ferry |
For me this is the best time of year to see Scotland, midges haven’t yet taken hold, and dare I even say the weather tends to be more settled.....
This is a 5 day tour, not including a day either side to arrive at meeting place and your ride home, so 7 days from door to door. We meet on Sunday and you’ll be heading home Saturday after breakfast.
We will meet at the Kenbridge Hotel in New Galloway, Dumfries and Galloway for around 3pm on Sunday and the evening will consist of a briefing, the next day’s route and places of interest along the way and evening meal. For those that wish we can have a quick ride out along a great little route around the local area.
Day 1
A ride through the rolling hills up to the Ayrshire coast and include a short ferry over to the Argyle Forest, then up along the west coast to Oban for our overnight stop and evening meal. Daily mileage around 188.
Day 2
Takes us further up the coast discovering the Ardnamurchan area via the Corran Ferry. We will ride up the white sandy beaches along the road to Mallaig, where we will take the ferry to the wonderful Isle of Skye, where we will spend the night in Portree. There is an excellent former TT mechanic here on the island for any wee niggles your bike may encounter too! Daily mileage around 197.
Day 3
Time to leave the Isle of Skye over the road bridge ( now toll free) and head up through the dramatic landscapes of Wester Ross up to Ullapool. There are alternative routes here to allow you to travel the road you most enjoy and visit the places you want to see. For me, I’ll be visiting Applecross for a delightful seafood lunch. We will meet up in Ullapool for our evening meal and overnight stop. Daily mileage around165.
Day 4
We head for the north today, visiting Durness before turning south after Tongue to ride through the barren northern landscapes of Sutherland. We head for Inverness and ride down the famous Loch Ness for our overnight stop at Drumnadrochit. Here you can discover for yourself if there really is something lurking in the depths…. Daily mileage around 205.
Day 5
Sees us return to our start point of the Kenbridge, but not before riding the most famous road in Scotland the A82, which passes through Glencoe and Rannoch Moor, before we head through Tayside and a small spot of motorway riding to get us south of Glasgow again. We then take us a wonderful route to ride though Dumfries and Galloway to return us to our start point. The evening will see us say farewell over our final dinner and social evening, with a viewing of a film showing the weeks ride. A personal version would be available to order if you wish. Daily mileage around 253.
The following morning you will depart at your leisure after a hearty Scottish breakfast.
